Edinboro, Pa. –
Rana Elhusseini recorded a career-high 36 points as the Edinboro women's basketball team topped visiting IUP 95-69 Monday night inside McComb Fieldhouse.
With the score tied 30-30 after a Teirra Preston layup the Scots closed the half on a 17-1 run over the final 3:20 of the second quarter. Elhusseini scored seven in the Edinboro spurt to end the half with
Gillian Fisher and
Maura Suman each adding a 3-pointer and
Bailie Brinson and
Morgan Gentile each scoring a layup to make the score 47-31 at the break.
Edinboro carried its momentum into the second half. Elhusseini opened the scoring with a pair of free throws before Kiera Baughman hit a triple to cut the lead to 49-34.
Hayley Sims and Suman each connected on layups to push the lead back to 53-34. Maria Cerro scored at the 7:32 mark to trim the lead to 53-36, but the Scots put together another huge run going on a 14-1 scoring spree to build their largest lead of the night, 67-37, with 4:25 remaining in the third. Edinboro would finish the third ahead 74-50. The Edinboro lead would never fall below 22 in the fourth.
IUP had the better of the early play building a 11-6 lead in the first quarter on an Alana Cardona layup at 5:41. A Fisher trey and four points from Elhusseini as part of a 7-2 spurt knotted the score at 13 with 3:06 on the clock. Cerro hit a 3-pointer at the 1:31 mark to put IUP back up 16-13, but Gentile hit a layup with 41 seconds left in the first to cut the deficit to 16-15.
In addition to her 36 points, Elhusseini dished out seven assists and pulled down five boards. Sims added 14 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Gentile also reached double-figures going for points and six rebounds.
Baughman paced the Crimson Hawks with 19 points while Preston tallied a double-double of 13 points and 14 boards.
The Scots are back in action on Wednesday when they host UPJ at 5:30 p.m. inside McComb Fieldhouse.
