Edinboro, Pa. – The Fighting Scots welcome the Golden Eagles of Clarion to Edinboro on Friday afternoon, with events beginning at 3 p.m. Edinboro returns to the pool after a highly competitive race weekend which saw two pool records set by
Leia Ross and
Stephanie Sipple, as well as
Leia Ross breaking into the top five times for the 100 breaststroke.
Your Senior Fighting Scots
Friday's races will see our eight senior swimmers celebrated before the beginning of the meet.
Stephanie Sipple holds a top-five place for Edinboro in the 1,000 freestyle at 10:31.85, the 100 butterfly at 56.48, and the 200 butterfly at 2:04.51. Stephanie recently broke the Gannon pool record in the fly with her time of 2:09.51. Stephanie highlighted her 2022 PSAC's NCAA B time of 56.48 as one of her fondest memories as a Fighting Scot. Stephanie is currently pursuing a Master's in Social Work as she looks to eventually gain an LCSW to work as a therapist.
Paige Smith is another of our swimmers that holds a place in Edinboro history. Paige was part of the 200-medley relay team in her freshman year that broke the Edinboro record in a time of 1:44.42 at the PSAC championships. Paige also holds a top-five spot in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 10:42.91 which she also achieved in her freshman year. Paige plans to teach middle school social studies whilst continuing her education in either educational leadership or history.
Gerardo Gonzalez Ruiz earned Third-Team All-PSAC honors in 2021-22 for his performances in the 100 and 200 backstroke. Gerardo holds two top-five times for Edinboro, he places second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 50.57 and also holds a spot in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:51.35. Gerardo earned a podium finish at the 2022 PSAC Championships in the 100 backstroke with a time of 50.89. Gerardo will be graduating with a major in Business Administration.
Makayla Scheu was part of the record-breaking 200-medley relay team in 2020. Makayla achieved the second-quickest time set by a Fighting Scot in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.85 to cement her place in the top five. Makayla highlights the NCAA B cut time in the 50 free as one of her fondest memories of competing for Edinboro. Makayla plans on working at Mercy Hospital of Buffalo, to either work in the I.C.U. or the E.R. Makayla also looks to continue her education to receive her certificate in forensic nursing.
Ted Kinney highlights taking gold at the 2022 Wooster Invite as one of his favorite memories alongside
Gerardo Gonzalez Ruiz,
Luke Edmonds, and
Dylan Cossin in the 400-freestyle relay. Ted currently holds two top-five times for Edinboro, in the 50 freestyle at 20.90 and in the 100 freestyle at 46.19. Ted will be graduating from Edinboro with a degree in Chemistry.
Lena Mitcho was part of the dominant trio against Allegheny that took all top three spots in the 50 freestyle, Lena placed third with a time of 27.60. Most recently Lena achieved her personal best in the 100 backstroke at Gannon in a time of 55.66. Lena holds a personal best of 25.67 in the 50 free and a time of 56.51 in the 100 free both achieved at the 2020 PSAC Championships.
Luke Edmonds also highlights the 400 free relay team as an "electrifying" experience in which the team won gold. This season Luke achieved season bests in the 50 free with a time of 21.57 and in the 50 fly at 25.01. The PSAC Championships of 2021 saw Luke secure personal bests in the 100 free (47.29) and the 100 fly (53.52).
Kendra Keyser celebrates senior day after her first season with the team, Kendra is also a member of the Edinboro Softball team where she has played all four years. Kendra posted three personal bests at the Wooster Invite this season in all three freestyle events, 50 free in a time of 26.86, 100 free at 58.30, and the 200 free at 2:08.58. Kendra will be graduating from Edinboro with an undergraduate degree in Pre-Physical Therapy.
