Edinboro, Pa. -- The Edinboro men's basketball team fell to Shippensburg University 79-70 on Saturday afternoon inside McComb Fieldhouse despite Naim Miller and Kierell Green combining four 39 points. With the loss, the Fighting Scots fall to (4-8) overall.
Off the opening tip it was Edinboro who shot out of the gates with a quick 5-0 lead after a three pointer from Jayden Harper and a jumper from Green. Moments later, the Scots continued to stay hot from outside as Jayden Harper knocked down another triple from deep.
After a finish at the rim from Rashon Barron at the 14:40 mark of the first half, Edinboro controlled a 13-6 lead over the Raiders. With less than a minute until the break Easton Fulmer connected on a deep range three pointer to cut the Shippensburg lead to just two points. The Scots trailed 34-30 at the half after a last second shot from the Raiders.
This time at the beginning of the second half it was Shippensburg who would come out firing on all cylinders out of the break. Within two minutes the Raiders turned their lead of four points to ten and forced a quick Edinboro timeout.
At the 14:31 mark Green would deliver on back-to-back shots to get the Scots back within three points. Edinboro continued their run when Miller found Dominique Keyes for a lay at the rim. The Edinboro 8-0 run had the Scots trailing 44-43 with 13:58 remaining in the game.
Down the stretch the Raiders continued to convert on offense with their 48% shooting percentage from the field in the second half. Suddenly with less than five minutes remaining Shippensburg had sustained their biggest lead of the game at 69-56.
Edinboro continued to fight until the final buzzer, with less than two minutes in the game the Scots constructed an 8-1 run which cut the Raiders lead to just five points.
The Scots late run wasn't enough to overcome Shippensburg in the end as Edinboro fell 79-70.
Miller led Edinboro with 20 points along with four rebounds. Green finished with 19 points to go along with five rebounds. Keyes was one rebound short of another double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds.
Edinboro will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to California University of Pennsylvania for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.
