Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro women's volleyball team picked up a 3-1 victory over visiting Slippery Rock Friday night inside McComb Fieldhouse.
With the first set tied 8-8, Edinboro opened up a lead with an 11-4 run capped by a
Makayla Neelands kill to make it 19-12. The Scots held off a Rock push to take the first 25-16.
After dropping the second 25-20, Edinboro bounced back and built a 15-10 lead in the third. Slippery Rock scored three straight to cut the lead to 15-13, but kills from Neelands and Kathryn Rachilla coupled with two Rock errors pushed the lead back to 19-13. Slippery Rock battled back to cut the lead to 23-22, but a pair of Neelands kills lifted the Scots to a 25-23 victory.
The Rock jumped out 7-3 in the fourth before Edinboro scored five straight to grab an 8-7 advantage. The lead see-sawed back and forth as the teams played to an 18-18 tie. A Rock error and
Kasey Smith kill pushed the Scots ahead 20-18. Callie Chevalier trimmed the lead to 20-19 with a kill, but Edinboro closed out the match with a 5-0 run, taking the fourth 25-19.
Natalie Pallone and Raschilla each tallied 16 kills while Neelands added 14. Abigaile Soboleski dished out 28 assists and
Laney Burns chipped in 24 helpers.
Carly Pry led the team with 27 digs.
Erika Lindqvist followed up her PSAC West Defensive Player of the Week honors with seven blocks including three solo stuffs.
The Scots are back in action on Saturday when they host California (PA) at 4 p.m. inside McComb Fieldhouse.
