Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro volleyball team scored a 3-0 victory over visiting Cal Saturday afternoon inside McComb Fieldhouse.
Cal got out early in the first taking a 6-3 lead on an Elisa Rugiero kill. The Scots answered with a 9-2 run to take a 12-8 lead. The Vulcans would close the gap to 14-12, but an
Erika Lindqvist kill,
Laney Burns service ace and two Cal errors pushed the Scot lead back out to 18-12. Edinboro closed out the first set 25-16.
The Vulcans got out to a 7-3 lead in the second, but a 6-2 spurt from the Scots leveled the score at 9-9. Cal held a 15-14 lead after an Emily Buwawa kill, but Lindqvist recorded a kill to tie the score sparking a 6-0 run to make it 20-15 Scots. Edinboro held off a late Cal push to win the second 25-20.
The Scots fell behind 4-0 to open the third and trailed by as much as 10-5 before scoring five straight to level the score 10-10 on a Lindqvist ace. After a Sophia Johnson kill made it 11-10 Vulcans, the Scots went on a 9-1 lead to take a 19-12 lead. The Scots would ride that momentum to a 25-21 third set win.
Natalie Pallone and
Kathryn Raschilla each tallied nine kills. Lindqvist added eight kills and two service aces.
Laney Burns led the Scots with 18 assists while
Abigale Soboleski tallied 17.
Defensively,
Carly Pry tallied 11 digs while
Emelia Rowell and Soboleski each picked up 10.
Kasey Smith led the Scots with four blocks.
The Scots are back in action on Friday when they travel to IUP for a 6 p.m. match with the Crimson Hawks.
