Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro volleyball team defeated IUP 3-1 in the regularly schedule match before coming up just short in the continuation of the match with Pitt Johnstown that was suspended two weeks ago.
In the first set against the Crimson Hawks, Delaney Concannon cut the Edinboro lead to 5-4 with a kill. The Scots scored the next four points including a kill and a service ace from
Jessica Hardin. Concannon stopped the run, but three straight points for the Scots made it 12-5. Edinboro never looked back taking the first 25-15.
With the score tied 2-2 in the second, Edinboro went on an 11-2 run keyed by a trio of
Carly Pry service aces to take a 13-4 lead. The Scots held off a late charge from IUP to take the second 25-17.
After dropping the third set 25-15, the Scots answered in the fourth. With the score tied at 6-6 early in the fourth, the Scots went on an 8-1 spurt to take 14-7 lead running away with the fourth set 25-12.
Natalie Pallone paced the Edinboro offense with 10 kills.
Kathryn Raschilla added eight. Pry tallied seven service aces.
Laney Burns notched 18 assists while
Abigale Soboleski added 17. Pry led the defense with 15 digs.
The Scots continued a match in which they trailed two sets to none, but leading the third set 14-9. The Scots scored the first four points after play continued going on to a 25-13 set victory.
In the fourth set, the score was tied at 10 before Edinboro went on a 5-1 spurt to take a 15-11 lead. The Mountain Cats got as close as 16-14, but three straight points on kills by Pallone,
Erika Lindqvist and Hardin made it 19-14 as the Scots took the fourth 25-17.
UPJ jumped out to an 8-3 lead in the decisive fifth set. The Scots battled back to 13-11, but Mountain Cats scored the last two points to earn the victory.
The Scots are back in action on Tuesday when they host Mercyhurst at 6 p.m. inside McComb Fieldhouse.
