Morgan Gentile pulled down an offensive rebound with eight seconds left and then hit a pair of free throws to seal a 72-69 victory for the Fighting Scots over host West Liberty Saturday night on the second day of the Atlantic Crossover.
With 22 seconds on the clock,
Lauren Mullen hit a pair of free throws to extend the Edinboro lead to 70-66. Corrine Thomas then hit a triple for the Hilltoppers wot cut the lead to 70-69.
Gillian Fisher was fouled with eight seconds left and missed both free throws, but Gentile got the offensive rebound and made the two free throws to set the final.
Ashten Boggs made a layup with 4:42 to play in the second half to put the Scots up 65-49. West Liberty went on a 17-3 run to cut the Edinboro lead to 68-66 with 24 seconds on the clock.
The first quarter was a see-saw affair with the score tied at 10-10 halfway through the frame. The Scots scored six straight to build the largest lead of the quarter 16-10 after a Boggs layup with 3:39 on the clock. West Liberty tied the game 17-17 on a Bailey Beckstedt triple with 31 seconds to play in the first. Mullen gave the Scots a 19-17 lead after one with a pair of free throws with 18 seconds left in the quarter.
Early in the second, a pair of Jenna Riccardo free throws tied the score at 19. The Scots responded with a 15-1 run led by five points from
Gillian Fisher pushing the lead to 34-20 halfway through the quarter. Edinboro would take a 40-27 lead into halftime after holding the Hilltoppers to just 10 points in the second.
Gentile paced the Edinboro offense with 15 points to go with five rebounds and a pair of blocks. Fisher chipped in 13 points, six boards and two blocks. Mullen added nine points and nine rebounds.
Ricardo led the Hilltoppers with 15 points and eight rebounds. Karly McCutceon added 14 while Thomas scored 13.
The Scots are back in action on Nov. 21 when they travel to Findlay for a 5:30 matchup with the Oilers.
