Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro men's basketball team secured head coach
Justin Jennings his first win as the Scots head coach topping visiting Roberts Wesleyan 87-80 Tuesday night at McComb Fieldhouse.
Ryan Hudson put the Red Hawks up 72-68 with a triple at the 6:18 mark of the second half. The Scots went on a 9-0 run with
Bernie Blunt and
Easton Fulmer each scoring four points to take a 77-72 lead with 2:54 to play.
Roberts Wesleyan closed the gap to 79-76 after four free throws from Malik Brooks sandwich two made free throws from
JJ Eubank. The Scots closed out the game going 8-of-8 from the charity stripe in the final 36 seconds to secure the win.
Edinboro held a 49-47 advantage at the break and
Jack Gallagher extended the lead on the opening possession of the second with a layup. Blunt connected on a 3-pointer after a
Madior Seye steal to push the lead to 54-47. The Red Hawks battled back using a 12-2 run to take the lead, 59-56, with 14:31 on left to play.
The Scots scored six straight capped by a Seye layup at the 13:05 mark to take the lead back 62-59. The game remained a one possession game until the Hudson trey at 6:18.
Eubank came out of the gate hot hitting two 3-pointers to start the game and give the Scots a quick 6-0 advantage. Roberts Wesleyan answered back with a 13-5 spurt to grab their first lead of the game 13-12 at the 12:27 mark of the first.
The rest of the first half was a see-saw affair with the Scots largest lead growing to four on three different occasions including 49-45 with 31 seconds left in the first on a Wilcott layup. Brooks answered with a basket of his own with 3 seconds left to trim the Edinboro halftime lead to 49-47.
Blunt led the Edinboro offense with 23 points including a perfect 14-for-14 at the charity stripe. Fulmer poured in a career-high 22 points on 7-of-14 shooting including 5-of-11 from beyond the arc. Eubank was the third Scot in double figures with 11 points. Gallagher and Wilcott put up eight points and a team-leading eight boards each.
Brooks led the Red Hawks with 27 points to go with four boards, three assists and three steals. Marlon Pratt Jr. notched 11.
The Scots return to action Dec. 1 when they travel to Kutztown for their PSAC opener.
