Clarion, Pa. – The Edinboro volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to host Clarion Saturday afternoon in PSAC West action.
In the first set, Clarion got out to a 5-1 advantage early. Back-to-back Clarion hitting errors trimmed the lead to 5-3, but the Golden Eagles scored nine straight to take a 14-3 lead and pushed on to a 25-11 first set win.
Edinboro trailed 4-1 early in the second, but the Scots responded with three straight to knot the score at 4-4. Clarion reclaimed an 11-8 lead before Edinboro notched five in a row to take a 13-11 advantage. Clarion tied it up at 13, but a 9-3 run put Edinboro ahead 22-16 as they went on to take a 25-22 set win.
The Scots got out to a 13-7 lead in the third, but Clarion went on a 7-2 run to cut the lead to 15-14. The teams traded points with Edinboro still holding a 19-18 advantage. The Golden Eagles went on a 5-1 spurt to take a 23-20 lead and claim the third 25-22.
Holding an 11-9 lead, Clarion scored six straight points to take a 17-9 lead and held off the Scots to take the fourth 25-15.
Neelands and
Kathryn Raschilla led the Scots with nine kills each.
Abigale Soboleski recorded 18 assists while
Laney Burns chipped in 13.
Carly Pry led the Scots with 12 digs and
Bella Burrelli notched 11.
Erika Lindqvist and Raschilla eacah tallied four blocks.
The Scots are back in action on Wednesday when they take on Gannon at 6 p.m. on Senior Day inside McComb Fieldhouse.
