Edinboro, Pa. – Trailing 2-1 in the match and 14-2 in the fourth set the Edinboro volleyball team rallied to knock off Gannon 3-2 inside McComb Fieldhouse Wednesday night to keep their postseason window open.
Down 14-2 in the fourth, Edinboro clawed back to within19-14 after a
Natalie Pallone kill. The Golden Knights scored the next two, but the Scots answered with a pair of their own to make it 21-16. After a ball handling error, Edinboro scored three straight on a Pallone kill, a
Laney Burns service ace and a Gannon error. Journey Blevins made it 23-19 with a kill, but the Scots scored five straight to take their first lead of the set 24-23. Gannon leveled the set at 24 after an attack error, but a Gannon error and a Raschilla kill gave the Scots the fourth 26-24.
In the fifth, Edinboro found themselves behind 5-3, but a 5-1 spurt keyed by a pair of kills from Pallone and a
Carly Pry service ace gave the Scots an 8-6 lead as the teams switched sides. Edinboro carried the momentum to the other side of the net scoring six straight including a pair of Burns service aces to take a commanding 14-6 lead. An Edinboro attack error made it 14-7 before
Makayla Neelands closed out the match with a kill.
The first set see-sawed back and forth with the Scots holding a 22-21 lead late in the set. A pair of Edinboro errors put Gannon ahead 23-22, but Pallone knotted the match at 23 with a kill. The Scots would commit back-to-back attack errors as Gannon took the first 25-23.
Edinboro came out of the gates fast in the second jumping out to a 14-5 lead. The Golden Knights came as close as seven, 15-8, but the Scots came away with a 25-15 win in the second.
The Scots held an 11-10 advantage in the third, but Gannon went on a 6-1 run to take a 16-12 lead. Edinboro closed the gap on a pair of Golden Knight errors, but six straight for Gannon carried them to a 25-18 win in the third.
Raschilla paced the Edinboro offense with 13 kills while hitting .357. Pallone also recorded 13 kills to go with four total blocks. Neelands also reached double figure kills with 10.
Abigale Soboleski tallied 24 assists while Burns added 22 helpers to her three service aces.
Pry led the Scots with 21 digs while Soboleski tallied 20 and
Bella Burrelli added 19.
Erika Lindqvist added six total blocks to the defensive effort.
The Scots are back in action on Friday when they travel to Mercyhurst a 6 p.m. showdown with the Lakers.
