Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro women's basketball team limited visiting Shepherd to just 39 points as 13 different Scots found the scoresheet in a 94-39 victory over the Rams Tuesday afternoon in PSAC crossover action inside McComb Fieldhouse.
The Edinboro defense held the Rams to just 29.4 percent shooting from the field and 22.2 percent from three. They forced 20 Ram turnovers and converted them into 27 points.
In the first quarter,
Gillian Fisher and
Hayley Sims connected on triples to open the scoring and make it 6-0 Scots. After a Kara Wehner jumper made it 6-2 at the 8:06 mark, Edinboro went on a 14-0 run, holding the Rams off the board until Sydney Bolles hit a 3-pointer with 2:07 on the clock in the first sparking an 8-4 spurt to end the quarter and cutting the lead to 24-10 after one.
Edinboro picked up right where they left off in the second growing the lead to 34-13 on an
Ashten Boggs layup at the 6:09 mark. Shepherd scored five straight to get as close as 34-18, but the Scots closed the second on a 9-4 run to take a 43-22 advantage into the break.
The Rams would get as close as 19, 45-26, at the 8:08 mark of the third, but the Scots held them to just 13 points over the final 18 minutes of play to pull away for the victory.
Hope Garrity led all scorers with 20 points on 7-of-13 shooting from long range.
Hayley Sims scored 16 points, grabbed six boards and dished out four assists in 21 minutes of action. Boggs also reached double figures with 10 points.
Kassie Potts and
Gillian Fisher each chipped in eight points.
Wehner led the Rams with 12 points and three assists. Bolles and Carmaya Bowman each tallied eight points.
The Scots return to action for a 1 p.m. tipoff at Shippensburg on Dec. 30.
