Shippensburg, Pa. – The Edinboro women's basketball team came back from the holiday break and scored a 76-67 win at Shippensburg in PSAC crossover action Saturday afternoon inside Heiges Fieldhouse.
Treasure George gave the Raiders a 13-12 lead with the first bucket of the second quarter, but
Hope Garrity hit a triple for Edinboro on the ensuing possession and give the Scots a lead that they would never give back.
Gillian Fisher hit a layup and
Maura Suman a pair of free throws to push the Edinboro lead to 19-13 with 7:58 on the clock. The teams traded baskets with Shippensburg closing the gap to 25-21 at the 5:17 mark.
Suman hit a 3-pointer at the 5:02 mark that sparked a 10-3 run pushing the Scot advantage to 35-24 after a pair of
Ava Haddad free throws with 2:45 remaining in the second. The Raiders closed the quarter with a 7-4 spurt to cut the halftime deficit to 39-31.
Shippensburg came out of the break and scored the first five points to cut the lead to three, 39-36, before
Gillian Fisher hit a triple and
Hayley Sims scored a pair of baskets making it 46-38 with 6:04 left in the third. Madi White hit a jumper with 5:03 to play to trim the lead to 46-40. The Scots finished the quarter strong not allowing another basket from the floor in the quarter using a 9-2 run to take a 55-42 lead into the final frame.
The Edinboro advantage swelled to as much as 18, 62-44, with 9:00 to play in the game and the Scots held off a late Shippensburg push to take the win.
Sims led all scorers with 20 points to go with four rebounds, four assists and a block. Fisher was a highly efficient 7-of-10 from the field for 17 points while pulling down eight boards and recording two helpers. Suman was the third Scot to score in double figures with 12 points to go with four boards.
George paced the offense for the Raiders with 17 points. Bella Chimienti added 15 points and Taja Colbert chipped in 14.
The Scots run their record to 6-4 overall and 4-1 in PSAC play. They are back in action on Wednesday when they host East Stroudsburg at 1 p.m. inside McComb Fieldhouse.
