Shippensburg, Pa. – The Edinboro men's basketball team dropped a 77-71 decision to host Shippensburg in the first game back from the holiday break Saturday afternoon.
The Raiders led 41-29 after a Ty Crespo jumper at the 17:57 mark of the second half.
Jack Gallagher scored an old-school 3-point play that sparked a 9-4 run capped by a
Madior Seye jumper to cut the lead to 45-38 with 15:06 mark of the second.
Shippensburg extended the lead 58-46 at the 8:31 mark of the second on a Markus Frank bucket. The Scots answered with a 16-6 run capped by a
JJ Eubank trey at 4:14 to trim the lead to 66-64. The Raiders scored the next five points to push the advantage to 71-62. Edinboro would get back within five, 72-67, after a
Bernie Blunt trey, but strong free throw shooting down the stretch helped Shippensburg hold off the Scots.
Daunte Wilcott opened the game with a 3-pointer, before Shippensburg tallied the next 11 to take an 11-3 lead at the 15:38 mark of the first half. Seye hit a jumper in the paint and Wilcott connected again from long range to trim the lead to 11-8. The Raiders scored five straight to extend the advantage to 16-8 with 11:34 remaining in the opening half.
Blunt hit a pair of free throws and a 3-pointer trimming the lead to 16-15 at the 9:53 mark of the first. Shippensburg went on a 14-3 run to make it 30-19 at the under four-minute media timeout and held the lead 37-27 at the break.
Seye paced the Edinboro offense with 18 points to go with seven rebounds. Blunt added 17 points, five boards and four assists. Gallagher just missed a double-double with nine points and 11 rebounds. Wilcott added nine points as well.
Frank led the Raider offense with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Andrew Recchia added 15 points while Trey Martin finished with 10.
The Scots return to action on Wednesday when they host East Stroudsburg at 3 p.m. inside McComb Fieldhouse.
