Men’s Basketball Falls Short to Mercyhurst

Edinboro, Pa. -- The Edinboro men's basketball team fell to Mercyhurst 81-67 on Wednesday night inside McComb Fieldhouse. With the loss, the Fighting Scots fell to (5-15) overall. 

Off the opening tip it was Mercyhurst who jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead after back-to-back three-pointers from Nicholas Lang who finished with a game-high 22 points. 

A few minutes later the Lakers would stretch an early lead into a 13-point differential after back-to-back jump shots.  

Edinboro would counter with consecutive finishes from Rashon Barron off the bench, including a huge dunk. The Scots stayed strong as they trailed 23-12. After another Mercyhurst basket, Edinboro would score two more back-to-back baskets that came from Jack Gallagher and Kierell Green in the paint. The quick spark of offense from the Scots cut the Lakers lead to single digits. 

The Lakers connected on another triple as they went into the half with a 43-29 lead. 

In the second half Edinboro would continue to fight as they created a 9-0 run which was led by Jaden Harper. Harper scored eight of the nine points during the run including two three-pointers. The Edinboro run cut the Mercyhurst lead to just seven points with 15:20 remaining in the game. 

The Lakers remained poised and countered with their own 6-0 run to increase the lead back to double digits. Down the stretch Green would convert on a three-pointer, followed by a dunk which as Edinboro trailed 59-51. 

In the final five minutes of action the Lakers would convert on 13 free throws to help ice the game. In the end Mercyhurst would top Edinboro 81-67.  

Naim Miller finished with a team-high of 17 points and was nine-for-ten from the line. Gallagher followed with 13 points and four assists. 

Edinboro will be back in action on Saturday when they host California University of Pennsylvania inside McComb Fieldhouse at 3:00 p.m.
