Edinboro, Pa. -- A full court heave fell short for the Edinboro men's basketball team as Slippery Rock prevailed 68-66 on Saturday afternoon inside McComb Fieldhouse. With the loss, the Fighting Scots fell to (5-18) overall.
Off the opening tip it was the Rock who struck first. Slippery Rock went up 9-2 early in the first half after a layup by Lashon Lindsey. Minutes later, Edinboro would earn their first lead of the game after a Fighting Scots 10-0 run. A big block from Kierell Green would find Jack Gallagher at the other end, as Edinboro led 12-11. The next play down Gallagher would connect with another layup to extend the lead to three points.
With less than two minutes to go in the half, Bryce Spriggs would come off a screen and pull from distance to cut the deficit to just one point. Edinboro trailed the Rock 25-27 at the break.
Edinboro kicked off the second half with an aggressive 7-0 run that was started by Green. Green connected on a jumper and then followed it up with a monstrous poster on a Slippery Rock opponent. The next play down Jaden Harper would splash his second three-pointer of the afternoon.
With 9:35 to play in the game, a jumper from Naim Miller would give the Scots their biggest lead of the game at 53-45.
The Rock continued to fight while trailing Edinboro. Slippery Rock used their eight second-half three-pointers to get back into the game late. With less than two minutes remaining, the score was tied at 62-62.
With 21 seconds left Slippery Rock's Jomo Goings would score a layup on a fast break to go up 67-66 ahead of the Scots. The next possession for Edinboro resulted in a miss in the paint.
Keyes led Edinboro with 15 points and 15 rebounds, as he earned his 11th double double of the season.
Edinboro will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to IUP for a 7:30 p.m. start.
