Men’s Basketball Falls to #1 IUP on the Road

Indiana, Pa. -- Despite a game-high 19 points from Naim Miller, the Edinboro men's basketball team fell to nationally top-ranked IUP 78-56 on Wednesday night inside the Kovalchick Convention & Athletic Complex. With the loss, the Scots drop to (5-19) overall.

In the opening minutes of action, it was the visiting Fighting Scots who opened things up with an early 9-5 lead over the Crimson Hawks. A few baskets down low from Dominique Keyes and a triple from Naim Miller would put Edinboro in the driver seat.

Suddenly the Crimson Hawks countered with a 13-0 run which forced a Fighting Scots timeout, as IUP led 18-9 with 13:08 left in the half. Out of the timeout IUP's David Morris would connect on his second three-pointer of the half to extend the lead to twelve points.

With seconds remaining in the first half, Miller would connect on a step-back jumper to cut the Crimson Hawk deficit to eleven points. Edinboro trailed IUP 26-37 at the break.

In the second half the Scots increased their shooting percentage up to 50% and connected on four three-pointers. Right out of the break Edinboro would apply immediate pressure to IUP's lead. Miller hit a jumper which was followed by a layup from Kierell Green and a huge three-pointer from Bryce Spriggs. A quick 7-0 run from Edinboro made it a two-possession game.

The Scots continued to keep the deficit close, with 12:34 left in the game Ryan Ladjevich would step up and hit a tough jumper. The basket cut IUP's lead to 47-45.

From that point on the Crimson Hawks would finish out the game by outscoring Edinboro by 20 points. A 31-11 would allow IUP to storm away with the help of their five second-half three-pointers.

Miller finished with a game-high 19 points along with three triples. Keyes followed him up 11 points and four rebounds.

Edinboro will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Pitt-Johnstown at 3:00 p.m.
