Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro women's basketball team dropped a 78-63 decision to visiting Slippery Rock Saturday afternoon at McComb Fieldhouse.
In the fourth quarter,
Lauren Mullen gave the Scots a 60-59 lead with a 3-pointer at the 5:45 mark. Jada Ward hit back-to-back jumpers to put the Rock up by three and an Isabellah Middleton free throw extend the advantage to 64-60. Mullen hit another trey with 3:50 on the clock, but that was the last bucket for Edinboro as Slippery Rock closed the game on a 14-0 run to set the final.
Edinboro jumped out to a 9-0 lead with
Bella Burrelli accounting for the first seven points of the game. Isabellah Middleton stopped the run, but five straight from Mullen pushed the Edinboro advantage to 14-2. The Rock would trim the lead to 14-7, but the Scots closed out the half with a 9-4 spurt to take a 23-11 lead after one.
Burrelli extended the lead with a layup to open the second quarter, but Slippery Rock countered with a 21-5 run to take their first lead of the game 32-30 with 3:06 left in the second on a Deleah Gibson jumper. The teams traded baskets sending the game to the locker room tied 36-36. Both Edinboro and Slippery Rock scored 17 in the third quarter to set the stage for the fourth.
Burrelli led the Scots with 17 points to go with six boards and two steals. Mullen added 11 points and two helpers.
Macie Jarrett tallied 11 points, four boards and three assists.
Gibson paced the Rock with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Jada Ward notched 17 points. Isabellah Middleton added 15 points while Kennedy Middleton chipped in 11.
The Scots return to action on Wednesday when they travel to IUP. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
