Indiana, Pa. – The Edinboro women's basketball team dropped a 71-52 decision to host IUP Wednesday night in PSAC West action.
Morgan Gentile scored a layup with 6:05 to play in the game to knot the score 49-49, but IUP closed out the game with a 22-3 run to holding the Scots to just one field goal over the final six minutes.
IUP came out of the half and pushed their two point advantage to 11, 45-34, on a Kiera Baughman jumper at the 4:50 mark of the third. Edinboro trimmed the lead to 47-40 at after three with a 6-2 spurt of their own to end the quarter.
Jenna Babay scored the first five points of the fourth for the Scots and two Gentile layups completed the 8-2 run that tied the score at 49.
The teams played a back-and-fourth first quarter with four ties and six lead changes. Neither team gained a two possession lead until Alana Cardona split a pair of free throws to make it 28-24 IUP with 2:08 left in the second quarter.
Macie Jarrett scored four straight for the Scots to tie the game before Anna Rafferty hit a layup to give the Crimson Hawks a 30-28 edge going into the half.
Rana Elhusseini was the Scots leading scorer with 16 points to go with five rebounds. Gentile finished with 11 points while
Bella Burrelli just missed a double-double with nine points and 10 boards.
Baughman paced the Crimson Hawks with 18 points and 10 boards. Teirra Preston also tallied a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds.
The Scots are back in action on Saturday with a trip to UPJ. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m.
