Johnstown, Pa. – The Edinboro women's basketball team fell 80-53 to host Pitt-Johnstown Saturday afternoon in PSAC action.
The Fighting Scots trailed 54-45 early in the fourth after a Hayden Taylor 3-pointer.
Bella Burrelli and
Hayley Sims cut the lead to 54-49. The teams traded baskets to make the score 56-51, before the Mountain Cats closed the game on a 24-2 run earning the victory.
Edinboro entered the third quarter down 34-33. Sims gave the Scots the lead with a triple to open the third. Makaylyn Clapper tied the game, but
Gillian Fisher scored five straight to put the Scots up 41-36. UPJ answered with a 15-4 spurt to take a 51-45 lead into the fourth.
The teams played a back-and-fourth first with neither team taking a two-possession lead until
Rana Elhusseini hit a pair of free throws to lead 14-9 with 3:21 to play in the first. The Mountain Cats came back with a 7-2 spurt to knot the game. Taylor hit a pair of free throws and Burrelli made a layup at the buzzer to send the game to the second tied 18-18.
UPJ scored the first seven points of the second quarter, but the Fighting Scots closed the quarter on a 15-9 run to make the score 34-33 Mountain Cats at the break.
Burrelli paced the Scots with 15 points while Sims chipped in 13. Fisher tallied nine points and a team-high five rebounds. Elhusseini notched seven assists to go with six points and four boards.
Peyton Alazaus notched 22 points. Ashley Norling tallied a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds.
The Scots are back in action on Wednesday wen they host Gannon at McComb Fieldhouse. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
