Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro women's basketball team earned a home game in the PSAC postseason by defeating visiting Clarion 72-34 Saturday afternoon in their regular season finale.
The Fighting Scots defense held Clarion to single digit scoring in three of the four quarters and held the Golden Eagles without a 3-point field goal. The last time Edinboro held an opponent without a triple was Dec. 4, 2016 against West Chester. The Scots forced 22 Clarion turnovers and turned those into 27 points.
The Scots jumped out to a 15-5 advantage to start the game after
Ashten Boggs hit a jumper at the 3:21 mark of the first. Clarion scored four straight to trim the lead to 15-9, but Edinboro closed the quarter on a 7-0 run to grab a 22-9 lead after one.
The pace slowed in the second quarter as Edinboro outscored the Golden Eagles 11-8 and took a 33-17 lead into the half.
The Scots second half lead grew to as many as 42, 66-24, after a
Macie Jarrett 3-pionter with 6:19 left in the fourth as Edinboro earned the victory.
Edinboro outrebounded Clarion 49-28 including getting 18 offensive rebounds.
Bailie Brinson pulled down eight offensive boards and 10 rebounds total to lead the Scots. She also tallied seven points.
Gillian Fisher led the offensive effort just missing a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds.
Hayley Sims tallied 11 points and
Rana Elhusseini finished with 10. Edinboro picked up contributions up and down the lineup with 11 different Scots scoring on the afternoon.
The Scots clinched the third-seed in the PSAC West earning the tiebreaker over IUP and UPJ who also finished 13-9 in conference play. Edinboro will host Seton Hill on Monday in the opening round of the PSAC postseason. Tip off is set for 6 p.m.
