Greensburg, Pa. -- Despite two twenty-five-point scorers in Kierell Green and Naim Miller, the Edinboro men's basketball team fell to Seton Hill University 103-81 on Wednesday night inside the Katherine Mabis McKenna Center. With the loss, the Scots drop to (5-17) on the season.
In the opening minutes of action Seton Hill would grab an early 8-0 lead with the backing of their home crowd. Edinboro went up on the board when Green pulled up for a smooth jumper and cut the lead to six points. Midway through the half Dominique Keyes found Green for a huge dunk to cut the deficit to just two points.
With 8:17 left in the half a strong Seton Hill run would extend their lead up to 32-20 after a fastbreak layup. The next possession Edinboro would respond with what would be the start of a huge 16-2 run. It was sparked by Bryce Spriggs who knocked down a three-pointer.
Another big dunk from Green boosted Edinboro's momentum. During the next play Rashon Barron would tie the game 34-34 with a smooth layup at the rim. Then Edinboro struck and grabbed their first lead by turning defense into offense. A block from Barron would lead to a jumper from Miller as Edinboro led 36-34.
The Griffins ended the half on a 13-5 to earn back a 47-41 lead at the half. Despite losing their lead, the Scots managed to shoot an efficient 50% from the field.
Right out of the half Green would connect with a nice tip-in rebound to cut the deficit to just four points. That is as close as Edinboro would get in the second half as Seton Hill accelerated on 62% shooting percentage from the field.
Down the stretch the Griffins would expand their lead to twenty-four points with thirty-nine seconds remaining in the game. As time expired the Fighting Scots would fall to host Seton Hill with a final of 103-81.
Green finished with a big 25 point and 13 rebound double double. Miller matched him with 25 points of his own to go along with four three-pointers. While Keyes earned his tenth double double of the season with 13 points and 16 rebounds.
Edinboro will be back in action on Saturday when they host Slipper Rock University at 3:00 p.m. following the women's game.
