Volleyball Tops Visiting Kutztown

Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro volleyball team bounced back with a 3-1 victory over visiting Kutztown Saturday day afternoon inside McComb Fieldhouse.
 
The Scots trailed 17-16 in the first set, but kills from Erika Linqvist and Kasey Smith jump started a 7-1 run to give Edinboro a 23-18 advantage. The Golden Bears would score twice more, but kills from Natalie Pallone and Jessica Hardin gave the Scots a 25-20 set win.
 
Edinboro jumped out to an 11-5 led to open the second set. Kutztown answered with seven straight points to take a 12-11 lead. The Scots put on a run of their own with Pallone recording three points on two kills and a block as part of a 7-0 spurt to make the score 18-12. The Golden Bears would trim the lead to 21-18, but Edinboro closed out the set with four straight including kills from Lindqvist and Hardin to win it 25-18.
 
The Scots dropped the third set 25-22 and fell behind 2-0 to start the fourth before going on a 7-1 run to go ahead 7-3. The Scots would build the lead to 14-5 and cruise to a 25-14 final score.
 
Hardin paced the Edinboro offense with 15 kills and a .290 hitting percentage. She also tallied 11 digs. Pallone added 14 kills on just 22 attacks for a .545 hitting percentage. She also tallied seven blocks. Abigale Soboleski tallied 27 assists while Laney Burns turned in 14. Carly led the team with 18 digs.
 
Sadie Doss led the Golden Bears with 19 kills on 66 attacks. Gabriela Fialova added 16 kills. Cat Farole triggered the offense with 40 assists.
 
The Scots ran their overall record to 4-5 overall and opens PSAC West play on Tuesday with a trip to Seton Hill for a 7 p.m. showdown against the Griffins.
