Women’s Basketball Falls to Seton Hill

Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro women's basketball team dropped an 83-69 decision to visiting Seton Hill Saturday afternoon in PSAC West action inside McComb Fieldhouse.
 
The jumped out to 5-0 lead on four points from Gillian Fisher and a Maura Suman free throw, but Seton Hill answered with seven straight of their own taking a 7-5 lead on a Christiane Frye layup with 6:17 to play in the first quarter.
 
Helene Cowan pushed the Seton Hill advantage to 13-9 with a triple at the 3:14 mark of the first. The Scots trimmed the lead back to two, 14-12 after a Jenna Babay free throw and an Ashten Boggs layup. The Griffins closed the quarter on a 5-0 spurt to take a 19-12 lead after one.
 
Hallie Cowan extended the lead to 22-12 with a trey to open the second quarter. Boggs scored on back-to-back possessions to cut the lead to 22-16. Seton Hill opened up a 35-18 lead with a 13-2 run capped by a Hallie Cowan 3-pointer at the 4:11 mark of the second. Hayley Sims scored four straight for the Scots to end the run and cut the lead to 35-22 with 3:15 to play in the quarter, but those were the last points of the half for Edinboro who trailed 39-22 at the break.
 
In the third quarter, the Griffins would extend the lead to 59-38 on a Sakeria Haralson layup with 2:45 remaining. The Scots closed the third with an 8-3 spurt to trim the lead back to 62-46.
 
Edinboro would get as close as 13, 67-54, at the 7:29 mark of the fourth, but couldn't trim the lead any farther as Griffins held on through the fourth.
 
Boggs and Gentile each tallied 18 points and six rebounds to lead the Scots. Sims finished with 15 points and five boards.
 
Helene Cowan scored a game-high 22 points to lead the Griffins. Hallie Cowan and Frye each scored 15 with Frye also tallying a game-high 11 boards.
 
The Scots are back in action on Monday when they host Slippery Rock inside McComb Fieldhouse. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
