Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro women's basketball held visiting Slippery Rock to just seven points in the third quarter on there way to a 75-58 victory over the Rock Monday night inside McComb Fieldhouse.
The Scots came out of the gate firing jumping out to a 10-2 lead led by five points form
Morgan Gentile. The Rock responded with a 9-2 spurt to cut the lead to 12-11. After the teams traded baskets,
Gillian Fisher and Gentile each made buckets to extend the lead to 18-13 with 3:08 left in the first quarter.
Slippery Rock trimmed the lead to 20-17 on a Kristina Donza jumper with 1:18 on the clock in the first.
Maura Suman hit a triple and Gentile a jumper to give Edinboro a 25-17 advantage after one.
The Scots extended the lead to 33-22 on a Fisher 3-pointer with 7:31 on the clock in the second. Slippery Rock trimmed the lead to 37-31 with a 9-5 run capped by a Kaylin Venick free throw with 4:46 left in the second. The Scots answered with an 8-2 run to extend the edge to 45-33 on a Boggs layup. Deryn Moye hit a triple and Donza a layup at the buzzer to cut the halftime deficit to 45-38.
In the third, Edinboro put the clamps on defensively. The Scot lead grew to 52-40 on a Fisher jumper. Endya Robinson hit a jumper with 5:59 left in the third to cut the lead to 52-42. Kaylin Venick hit a trey at the 4:17 mark of the third and that was the last points of the quarter for the Rock. The Scots scored the last 13 points of the quarter to extend the lead to 65-45 after three. The Scot lead didn't fall below 19 until the final minute of the fourth quarter.
Fisher went 9-of-13 from the field and 3-of-3 from beyond the arc to score 21 points as well as pulling in six boards and two steals. Gentile also tallied 21 points to go with six helpers, five rebounds and a pair of steals. Boggs was highly efficient scoring 20 points on 10-of-14 shooting and a team-high seven rebounds.
Regan Atkins tallied 12 points and seven rebounds to lead the Rock. Moye chipped in 12 points and six boards while Robinson notching 11 points and six rebounds.
The Scots are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Cal for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff against the Vulcans.
