Edinboro, Pa.—
Gillian Fisher scored a career-high 27 points as the Edinboro women's basketball team notched an 86-61 victory over visiting Clarion Saturday afternoon inside McComb Fieldhouse.
Fisher continued her run of efficient play shooting 10-of-14 from the field and 5-of-9 from beyond the arc to go with eight rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Hayley Sims also scored in double figures with 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field.
Morgan Gentile and
Ashten Boggs each scored nine points.
Fisher scored the first basket of the game and
Maura Suman made it 4-0 with a bucket on the next Edinboro possession. Clarion trimmed the lead to 6-4 at the 7:13 mark, but the Scots went on an 11-2 run capped by a Gentile free throw at the 4:32 mark to make it 17-6. Autumn Taylor hit a trey to cut it to 17-9 at the 2:46 mark. Edinboro closed the half on a 10-6 spurt to take a 27-15 after one.
The Scots carried the momentum into the second quarter opening up with an 8-2 run pushing the lead to 35-17. Clarion scored six straight points to cut the lead to 35-23 with 5:11 left in the quarter. The Scots closed out the quarter with a 9-5 spurt to hold a 44-28 lead at the break.
Edinboro pushed their lead to as much as 20, 64-44, after a pair of Boggs free throws with 3:22 left in the third. The Scots would take a 68-50 lead into the fourth. The Scots grew their lead to it's largest total 81-52 at 6:43 of the fourth and kept it at more than 20 through the end of the game.
The Scots shot 55.4 percent from the field and 10-of-22 from beyond the arc on the day. They forced 19 turnovers and turned those into 21 points. Edinboro also held a 40-27 advantage on the glass.
Edinboro returns to action on Wednesday when they host Gannon. Tip off is slated for 5:30 p.m. inside McComb Fieldhouse.
