Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro volleyball team earned a 3-0 victory over visiting California (PA) Saturday afternoon in PSAC West play.
The Scots trailed 22-19 in the opening set after a
Makayla Neelands attack error.
Kasey Smith picked up a kill and back-to-back Vulcan errors tied the score 22-22. Elise Rugiero gave Cal the lead back, but
Erika Lindqvist and Neelands gave the Scots set point with a kill each. The teams see-sawed to a 29-29 tie after Cal got a kill from Allie Droneberger. Smith and Neelands recorded back-to-back kills to give the Scots a 31-29 set victory and a 1-0 lead.
In the second, the teams were tied at 5-5 and the Scots went on a 7-1 run to grab a 12-6 lead. The Vulcans would close the gap to 16-15 after an Edinboro attack error, but the Scots scored four of the next five points to push the lead to 20-16 and held off a late Vulcan push to take the set 25-22.
The Scots jumped out 12-6 in the third set and pushed the lead to 22-11 with a 10-5 run. Edinboro finished the third with a 25-17 victory.
Neelands tallied 19 kills to go with 17 digs. Lindqvist was highly efficient notching 13 kills on 22 attacks for a .500 hitting percentage. She also tallied three blocks. Abigale Sobolski triggered the offense with a team-high 36 assists.
Carly Pry tallied a team-best 21 digs.
The Scots are back in action on Friday when they host IUP at 6 p.m. inside McComb Fieldhouse.
