Volleyball Falls to IUP

Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro volleyball team fell 3-1 to visiting IUP Friday night in PSAC West action inside McComb Fieldhouse.
 
In the opening set, the Crimson Hawks jumped out to a 12-5. Edinboro scored the next two points to cut the lead to 12-7, but IUP answered with a 5-1 run pushing the advantage to 17-8. The Crimson Hawks finished out the set winning It 25-15.
 
The Scots flipped the script in the second set. Up 7-5, Edinboro scored the next seven points to go ahead 14-5. The Edinboro lead grew to 19-7, but the Crimson Hawks notched seven straight points to trim the lead to 19-14. The Scots held off the late charge and took the set 25-19.
 
The third set was a see-saw affair with neither team holding a lead larger than three points. The Scots had set point up 24-22, but a kill from Lauren Valentic and an Edinboro error tied the score at 24. A service error gave the Scots the lead back, but again the Crimson Hawks scored back-to-back to take a 26-25 lead. An IUP attack error and a Casey Smith kill put the Scots back up 27-26. IUP scored the last three points of the set to take it 29-27.
 
With the scored tied at 7-7 in the fourth, IUP scored the next four points to go up 11-7. The teams traded points to a score of 15-12 Crimson Hawks. IUP reeled off five straight points and would go on to a 25-20 set win.
 
Jessica Hardin and Makayla Neelands each tallied 13 kills to lead the offense. Abigale Soboleski notched 34 assists and 14 digs to lead the Scots. Erika Lindqvist tallied seven blocks.
 
Valentic led the offense for IUP with 13 kills while Jessica Neiman notched 12. Olivia Heidel paced the Crimson Hawks with six blocks and triggered the offense with 45 assists. Bailey Flowerdew led the defensive effort with 30 digs.
