Volleyball Drops Five-Setter at Slippery Rock

Slippery Rock, Pa. – The Edinboro volleyball team fell 3-2 to host Slippery Rock Friday night in PSAC West action inside Morrow Field House.
 
The Scots and Rock were even in the first set 22-22 and Kasey Smith gave Edinboro a 23-22 lead with a kill. Slippery Rock tied the match with a Chelsie Wheeler kill. Back-to-back kills from Nakayla Neelands and Erika Lindqvist gave Edinboro a 25-23 first set win.
 
In the second, the Rock jumped out early to a 13-2 lead and held the Scots at arm's length winning the set 25-12 and leveling the match at one set each.
 
Edinboro got out to a 10-8 lead in the third. Slippery Rock scored the next four points as part of an 8-1 run to take a 16-11 lead. The Scots answered back with a 7-1 spurt to cut the lead to 17-16. The teams traded three point runs to make the score 20-19 Slippery Rock. The score would go back and forth with the Rock scoring a 25-22 set win.
 
The Scots jumped out early in the fourth building a 12-5 lead after a kill by Jessica Hardin. The Rock cut the lead to 13-11, but four straight points for Edinboro made it 17-11 Scots. Edinboro held on for the 25-22 win and forced a fifth set.
 
In the fifth, Edinboro scored the first three points, but Slippery Rock won the race to eight holding an 8-5 advantage as the teams switched sides of the court. The Rock scored three more to push the lead to 11-5 and held on for the 15-11 set and match win.
 
Hardin led the Edinboro offense with 14 kills as well as three service aces. Neelands tallied 13 kills and 19 digs. Abigale Soboleski triggered the offense with 32 assists. Defensively, Carly Pry led the Scots with 25 digs while Lindqvist tallied five blocks.
 
Wheeler led the Rock offense with 16 kills. Jaeden Yost notched 30 assists while Kate Lachendro-Biery was the leader in digs with 23.
 
The Scots are back in action on Saturday when they take on Seton Hill at 1 p.m. in the final match of the regular season.
