Cenker Evran recorded his fourth double-double in as many games, but the Edinboro men's basketball team dropped a 73-68 decision to visiting Malone Saturday night inside McComb Fieldhouse.
The Scots came out of the gates hot jumping out to a 10-2 lead after an Evran layup with 16:38 on the clock in the first half. The Pioneers answered back a 10-2 run of their own to knot the score 12-12 at the 13:46 mark.
Malone grabbed the lead 18-13 with a 6-1 spurt capped by an Edward Wright II layup. The Scots responded with an 11-6 run to tie the game 24-24 on a
Ryan Ladjevich 3-poitner. Ladjevich gave the Scots the lead on the next possession with a bucket. Wright tied the game with 1:28 left in the first half and
Bryce Baez gave the Scots a halftime lead, 27-26, after splitting a pair of free throws.
In the second half, Malone opened on a 7-2 run to grab a 33-29 lead at the 16:41 mark.
Evan Berger hit a 3-pointer and Evran made a layup to give Edinboro a 34-33 lead with 15:47 to play. The Pioneers went on a 16-3 run building a 50-36 lead with 12:05 on the clock in the second half.
The Pioneer held the lead 64-50 at the 4:28 mark, but the Scots used pressure defense to go on a 13-4 run trimming the lead to 68-63 after a
Steve Kelly triple with 1:46 on the clock. Malone would push the lead back out to nine with solid free throw shooting and held off a late Scot push to secure the 73-68 win.
Evran tallied 16 points and 14 rebounds to go with two blocks and two assists. Kelly notched 11 points, five assists and three rebounds while Ladjevich also scored 11 points to go with five boards, two assists and two steals.
Tre Baumgardner led the Pioneers with 19 pionts while grabbing eight rebounds and three steals. Ryan Bartly tallied 15 points and a team-high nine boards.
The Scots return to action on Tuesday when they host Penn State DuBois at noon inside McComb Fieldhouse.
