Women’s Basketball Scores Victory Over West Chester

Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro women's basketball team improved to 2-0 in conference play after scoring a 75-67 win over West Chester Saturday afternoon inside McComb Fieldhouse.
 
The game started as a back-and-forth affair with Anna McTamney tying the game 9-9 with 6:56 left in the first quarter. The Scots came answered with a 15-4 run led by six points from Ashten Boggs to put Edinboro ahead 24-13 with 1:02 left in the first. West Chester hit a pair of free throws to cut the deficit to 24-15 after one.
 
The Golden Rams made the first bucket of the second quarter before Edinboro scored 11 of the next 13 points to push the lead out to 35-19 on a 3-pointer by Hayley Sims at the 6:22 mark of the second. West Chester finished the quarter on an 11-6 run to trim the Scots halftime lead to 41-30.
 
Edinboro came out of the half and scored the first seven points of the third on an and-one from Morgan Gentile, a pair of Ava Haddad free throws and another Gentile layup to push the lead out to 48-30 at the 8:37 mark. McTamney hit a pair of free throws to cut the lead back to 48-32, but a Gabby McDuffie free throw and a Gentile triple pushed the lead out to 52-32. West Chester cut the lead to 57-42 with a 10-5 spurt heading to the fourth quarter.
 
The Golden Rams outscored the Scots 25-14 after a Rachel Conran 3-pointer with 39 seconds left to cut the lead to 71-67. The Scots closed out the game with four free throws to set the final.
 
Gentile led all Edinboro scorers with 23 points to go with four rebounds. She shot 7-of-11 from the field and 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. Haddad scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds while notching a pair of assists. Sims added 13 points, three steals and three boards. Boggs was the fourth Scot scoring in double-figures with 10 points.
 
McTamney paced the Golden Rams with 24 points and five rebounds. Michelle Kozicki added 13 points and seven rebounds.
 
The Scots are back in action on Wednesday when they host D'Youville at 2 p.m. inside McComb Fieldhouse.
