Ashten Boggs tallied her first double-double of the season as the Edinboro women's basketball team scored a 73-55 victory over visiting D'Youville Wednesday afternoon inside McComb Fieldhouse.
With the Scots leading 18-16 after the first, Isabella Kostyal-Larrier tied the game with the first bucket of the second. Edinboro answered with 10 straight points led by the final five from
Morgan Gentile to take a 28-18 lead with 5:31 left in the second. D'Youville trimmed the lead 28-22 with four straight points after a pair of Megan Fedor free throws at the 4:37 mark of the second.
The Scots opened up the game 13 straight points aided by three steals and transition baskets to take a 41-22 lead with 1:49 left in the second quarter. The Saints scored once more before the break to cut the lead to 41-24 heading to the locker room.
The teams played an even third quarter with the lead shrinking to 10, 51-41, after a Morgan Giancaterino layup at the 3:43 mark. Edinboro closed out the quarter on a 10-3 spurt to push the lead back to 61-44 after three. The Scot lead never fell below 14 in the fourth as Edinboro took home the victory.
The Scots never trailed scoring the first six points of the game with an
Ava Haddad layup sandwiched by a pair of Boggs layups. After a Saint 3-pointer, Edinboro went on a 6-0 run capped by a
Maura Suman jumper at the 4:16 mark to extend the lead to 12-3. The Scot lead grew to 18-8 with 2:11 left in the first, but D'Youville closed out the quarter with eight straight to cut the lead to 18-16.
Boggs led the way for the Scots with 20 points and 11 rebounds as well as three steals. Gentile tallied 18 points, six helpers, three steals and a pair of rebounds. Haddad also reached double figure scoring with 13 points to go with six rebounds and two assists.
Anna Jankovic led the Saints with 15 points and nine rebounds. Aliviya Vallone Russell chipped in 11 points.
The Scots return to action on Dec. 6 when they travel to East Stroudsburg for a 3 p.m. tip against the Warriors.
