Men’s Basketball Falls to Roberts Wesleyan on the Road

Rochester, N.Y. – The Edinboro men's basketball team dropped a 96-82 decision to host Roberts Wesleyan Tuesday night in non-conference action.
 
The Scots trailed 59-50 after a Arnardo Camacho layup at the 16:19 mark of the second half. Steve Kelly hit a 3-pointer, Bryce Baez scored a layup and another Kelly layup cut the lead to 59-57 with 15:10 to play. The Redhawks answered with a 5-2 spurt to push the lead back to 64-59. Baez finished an and-one and Kelly converted a layup to tie the game 64-64 with 12:47 remaining.
 
Roberts Wesleyan scored the next seven point take a 71-64 lead with 10:25 left in the second. The lead would swell to 13, 80-67 with 6:26 left to play. Two Kelly free throws and a Michael Dunn 3-pointer trimmed the lead to 80-72 with 5:53 remaining, but eight straight points for the Redhawks pushed the lead to 88-72. The Roberts Wesleyan lead stayed in double digits the rest of the way.
 
The teams traded the lead back and forth in the opening half with seven lead changes and five ties in the first 10:30. With the score tied 24-24, the Redhawks scored eight straight points capped by a Ryan Garwood 3-pointer at 7:42. Daunte Wilcott hit a layup and Jonathan Anderson knocked down a triple to cut the lead to 32-29 at the 6:33 mark.
 
The Redhawks opened up a 41-29 lead with 5:02 left in the first on a Jermaine Taggart jumper. The Scots answered with a 13-6 run capped by a Kelly layup with 50 seconds on the clock to trim the lead to 47-42. Roberts Wesleyan scored once more before the break to take a 49-42 lead into the half.
 
Kelly led the Edinboro offense with 19 points. Baez added 15 points and nine rebounds as well as four assists. Ryan Ladjevich added 14 points and nine boards while Dunn added 14 points.
 
Malik Brooks led the Redhawks with 29 points while Camacho tallied a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
 
The Scots are back in action on Saturday when they host Thiel at 5 p.m. inside McComb Fieldhouse.
