Men’s Basketball Drops Crossover Matchup Against Lock Haven

Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro men's basketball team fell 71-69 in PSAC crossover action to visiting Lock Haven Tuesday night inside McComb Fieldhouse.
 
The Scots trailed 62-60 with 3:37 to play after an Isaiah Stewart layup. Steve Kelly gave Edinboro the lead back, 63-62, with an old-school 3-point play at the 2:39 mark. Stewart made another basket and Daunte Wilcott responded with a pair of free throws to make it 65-64 with 2:01 to play. The Bald Eagles scored four straight on baskets by Eli Washington and LaQuan Byrd to make it 68-65 with 1:09 left in the game.
 
Cenker Evran trimmed the lead to 68-67 with 17 seconds remaining. On the ensuing inbounds play, Ryan Ladjevich fouled Stewart and Lock Haven's Kevin Coleman was called for a technical foul. Evan Berger converted both free throws to give Edinboro a 69-68 advantage. Stewart converted both end of the one-and-one to put Lock Haven back up 70-69. Berger couldn't get his shot to fall with 2 seconds left and Coleman split a pair of free throws to set the final.
 
Evran converted an and-one at the 19:31 mark of the second half to put the Scots up 44-34. Lock Haven chipped away at the lead using a 6-2 run to make the score 46-40 with 16:35 to play. A Bryce Baez trye and Berger jumper sandwiched a Mike Knouse bucket to push the Edinboro lead to 51-42 with 15:43 on the clock.
 
Lock Haven answered with a 12-1 spurt taking a 54-52 lead on a Stewart basket with 11:04 remaining. The teams traded buckets with neither team holding a multiple possession lead the rest of the way.
 
Edinboro scored the first five points of the game on a layup by Evran and a Berger 3-pointer. The Bald Eagles answered with a 7-2 run to tie the game with 14:35 on the clock. The Scots grabbed a 15-11 lead on a Berger trey capping an 8-4 run at 11:27.
 
Lock Haven tied the score at 21 with a Knouse layup at 6:25. Steve Kelly scored back-to-back layup sparking a 9-2 run to grab a 30-23 lead with 4:22 left in the first half. Washington and Byrd combined for five straight points to cut the lead to 30-28, but Edinboro finished the half on an 11-6 spurt to take a 41-34 lead into the locker room.
 
Kelly tallied 17 points, six boards and five assists to lead the Edinboro offense. Evran also tallied 17 points to go with seven rebounds and two steals. Berger also reached double figures with 14 points and five boards.
 
Stewart led all scorers with 20 points while grabbing seven rebounds. Byrd tallied 15 points while Washington finished with 14.
 
The Scots are back in action on Saturday with a trip to Bloomsburg. Tip off is slated for 1 p.m.
