Ashten Boggs hit a jumper from the free-throw line as time expired to give the Edinboro women's basketball team a 72-70 victory over visiting Lock Haven Tuesday night inside McComb Fieldhouse.
Jenadia Jordan gave Lock Haven a 70-67 lead with a layup at the 49 second mark of the fourth.
Morgan Gentile drove scored the basket and converted the and-one free throw to knot the score at 70-70 with 40 seconds to play. The Scot defense got the stop when
Ava Haddad rebounded a missed layup from Nufi Namale-Djiegoue. After a timeout, Gentile drove the baseline and found an open Boggs for the game-winner as time expired.
Edinboro held a 60-53 advantage after a Haddad layup with 8:21 on the clock in the fourth quarter. The Bald Eagles responded with a 10-2 run capped by a Jordan jumper with 6:11 to play to take a 63-62 lead.
Gabby McDuffie scored five straight for the Scots to take the lead back 67-63 at the 4:36 mark. Lock Haven's Alana Robinson made two layups and a free throw to put the Bald Eagles back ahead 68-67 with 3:12 to play.
The Scots trailed 32-31 at the break but came out in the third quarter with 9-2 run with Boggs scoring all nine points to take a 40-34 lead with 7:44 remaining in the third. Lock Haven answered back with five straight point to trim the lead to 40-39 at the 5:48 mark. McDuffie scored an and-one with 3:53 left in the quarter finishing a 7-0 run that extended the Edinboro lead to 47-39. The Bald Eagles trimmed the lead to 50-48 before a 6-1 run to close the quarter left the Scots up 56-49 going to the final frame.
Gentile gave the Scots an early 12-9 advantage with a pair of free throws at the 2:57 mark of the first quarter. Lock Haven scored the next seven points keyed by five from Jordan to take a 17-12 lead with 38 seconds left in the first. Boggs hit a pair of free throws to cut the deficit to 17-14 after one.
Edinboro opened the second with a 7-4 run to tie the game 21-21 with 6:25 left in the second. The teams traded scored to a 25-25 tie after a Jordan bucket at the 4:22 mark.
Hayley Sims and McDuffie scored back-to-back for the Scots to take a 29-25 lead with 3:17 left in the quarter. Lock Haven closed the half with a 7-2 run to take a 32-31 edge into halftime.
Boggs tallied 17 points, five rebounds and two steals. McDuffie also finished with 17 points to go with four boards. Gentile added 14 points and seven rebounds as well as five assists.
Maura Suman was the fourth Scot in double-figure scoring with 10 points. Haddad led Edinboro with 11 rebounds to go with six points, two steals and a block.
Jordan paced the offense for Lock Haven with 22 points. Kiera Baughman added 18 points while Madeline Evans chipped in 11.
The Scots are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Bloomsburg. The women will be the late half of the PSAC doubleheader with tipoff slated for 3 p.m.
