Women’s Basketball Picks Up PSAC Road Win at Bloomsburg

Bloomsburg, Pa. – The Edinboro women's basketball team scored a 71-59 PSAC victory over host Bloomsburg Saturday afternoon.
 
With 7:33 on the clock in the third quarter, Ella Kale scored for Bloomsburg to tie the game at 30-30. Morgan Gentile put the Scots back ahead with a layup and an Ashten Boggs old-school 3-point play made it 35-30 Edinboro with 6:36 to play in the third. Gabby McDuffie and Ava Haddad each scored buckets to extend the Edinboro lead to 39-20 at the 4:24 mark.
 
The Huskies trimmed the lead to 45-39 with 1:12 left in the third. Morgan Gentile hit a free throw with 15 seconds left and then a 3-pointer with 3 seconds remaining in the quarter to extend the lead to 49-39 after three quarters.
 
Edinboro opened the fourth quarter with an 8-5 spurt to extend the lead to 57-44 with 7:47 remaining. Bloomsburg chipped away at the lead with a 13-4 run cutting the Scot advantage to 61-57 with 2:01 on the clock. The Scots scored nine straight points to push the lead back out to 70-57 with 32 seconds left to seal the victory.
 
In the first quarter, Haddad put Edinboro up 8-4 with a layup at the 4:45 mark. Bloomsburg scored seven in a row to take an 11-10 lead. Maura Suman and Akasha Santos traded layups and McDuffie hit a 3-pointer to put Edinboro up 15-13 after one.
 
Hayley Sims and Gentile scored buckets to open the second to put the Scots up 19-13 with 8:53 on the clock. Boggs extended the lead to 25-17 with a layup at the 6:04 mark. The Huskies closed the quarter on a 9-2 spurt to trim the Edinboro advantage to 28-26 at the half.
 
Gentile led all scorers with 22 points to go with eight rebounds and three assists. Haddad notched 16 points and three rebounds. McDuffie also reached double-figure scoring with 12 points and seven rebounds.
 
Leah Kale paced the Huskies with 16 points. Katelin Starr added a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
 
The Scots run their record to 10-2 overall and 6-0 in PSAC play. They return to action on Jan. 3 with a trip to Clarion. Tip off is set for 5:30 p.m. inside Tippin Gymnasium.
