Dominant Defensive Performance Lifts Women’s Basketball to Road win at East Stroudsburg

East Stroudsburg, Pa. – The Edinboro women's basketball team held host East Stroudsburg to single digit points in two different quarters in a 73-44 PSAC victory Sunday afternoon inside Koehler Fieldhouse.
 
In the first quarter, Edinboro put the clamps on the Warriors holding East Stroudsburg to four points on 2-of-19 shooting from the field. Morgan Gentile scored the first basket of the game and Izzy Voel tied the score 2-2 on the ensuing possession at the 8:52 mark. The Scots scored the next 10 points capped by a Hayley Sims triple at the 4:47 mark. Brooke Droege broke the Warrior scoring drought with a basket at the 4:07 mark and that was the last point of the quarter for East Stroudsburg as Edinboro closed the quarter on a 10-0 run to take a 22-4 lead after one.
 
Boggs extended the lead to 24-4 with a layup opening the second quarter. Lacie Kringe hit a 3-pointer to pull the Warriors within 24-7, but a 14-4 run capped by an and-one from Gabby McDuffie extended the Edinboro lead to 38-11 with 3:55 remaining in the half. Edinboro held a 41-19 advantage going to the locker room.
 
The third quarter started with the teams trading baskets and the score holding after each team scored four points after a Kringe bucket at the 7:56 mark. The Edinboro defense showed up big holding East Stroudsburg without a point for 7:54 seconds and extending the lead to 55-25 after the third quarter.
 
In the fourth quarter, the Edinboro lead never fell below 24 as the Scots brought home the victory.
 
Maura Suman led the way for the Scots with 12 points and seven rebounds to go with two assists and a steal. Gentile also scored 12 points while dishing out five helpers grabbing five boards and notching three steals. McDuffie chipped in 11 points and five rebounds. Boggs was the fourth scot to reach double figure scoring with 10 as well as a team-high eight rebounds.
 
The Scots held East Stroudsburg without a double figure scorer with Emily Chmiel leading the way with eight points and six rebounds.
 
Edinboro dominated in the paint doubling up the Warriors 44-22. Edinboro also outrebounded East Stroudsburg 52-34.
 
Edinboro ran their record to 8-1 overall and 3-0 in PSAC play. The Scots are back in action on Wednesday with a trip to Wayne State. Tip off is slated for 4:30 p.m.
