Women’s Basketball Clinches Postseason Berth with Victory Over Seton Hill

Greensburg, Pa. – Morgan Gentile scored the final eight points of the game including going 4-of-4 from the line in the final seconds to help the Edinboro women's basketball team to a 71-68 road victory ensuring the Scots a spot in the PSAC postseason.
 
Mia Kalich gave Seton Hill a 64-61 advantage with 2:52 to play. Gillian Fisher trimmed the lead to 64-63 with a jumper at 2:38. Gentile gave Edinboro the lead back at the 1:48 mark with a layup and then extended the lead to 67-64 with another layup with 43 seconds to play.
 
Hallie Cowen got Seton Hill back within one, 69-68, with 32 seconds to play, but Gentile went 4-for-4 from the line in and tipped the Griffins final inbounds pass away to seal the victory.
 
The Scots held a 54-51 lead heading into the final quarter, and Gentile pushed the lead to 57-53 after Gentile split a pair of free throws at the 8:13 mark. The Griffins scored four straight to knot the score 57-57 with 7:36 to play. Gentile put the Scots back up 59-57 with a pair of free throws. Helene Cowan gave the Griffins their first lead of the second half with a triple at the 5:44 mark and then pushed the lead to 62-59 with a layup at 4:41.
 
Seton Hill jumped out early taking a 9-2 lead at the 6:53 mark on a Sakeria Haralson jumper. The Scots answered with an 11-0 run capped by an Ashten Boggs layup at the 2:53 mark to make it 13-9. Christiane Frye cut the lead to 13-11 before Boggs hit 1-of-2 free throws to make it 14-11 Scots after one.
 
The Scots pushed the lead to five, 21-16, at the 7:21 mark of the second on a layup by Gentile. Seton Hill went on a went on a 7-3 spurt cutting the lead to 24-23 with 6:05 left. The Scots went on an 11-2 run capped by a Hayley Sims 3-pointer at the 2:03 mark to push the lead to 35-25. The Griffins finished the quarter on a 4-0 run to cut the halftime deficit 35-29.
 
Gentile opened the scoring in the second half with an and-one extending the Scot lead to 38-29. The Griffins went on a 12-4 run trimming the lead to 42-41 with 4:52 on the clock. The Scots answered back with a 9-4 spurt extending the lead to 51-45 on a Sims triple at the 2:54 mark. The Griffins closed out the quarter on a 6-3 run make it 54-51 after three.
 
All five Fighting Scot starters reached double figure scoring. Gentile finished the game with 23 point, six rebounds, six assists and two steals. Fisher notched a double-double with 15 points and 10 boards. Boggs tallied 11 points and four rebounds. Maura Suman and Sims each poured in 10 points.
 
Frye paced the Griffin attack with 16 points. Hallie Cowan added 14 points and six boards while Helene Cowan tallied 12 points and five rebounds.
 
The Scots are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Slippery Rock. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
