Slippery Rock, Pa. – The Edinboro women's basketball team secured a home game in the first round of the PSAC postseason after defeating host Slippery Rock 60-47 Wednesday night in PSAC West action.
Anye Washington cut the Edinboro lead to 41-38 with a 3-pointer at the 1:23 mark of the third quarter.
Morgan Gentile and
Gillian Fisher each scored a layup and
Hayley Sims hit a long triple at the buzzer to give the Scots a 48-38 advantage heading to the final frame.
Sims scored the first bucket of the fourth to push the edge to 50-38. The Rock would get as close as 10 twice, but the lead never fell into single digits the rest of the way.
Edinboro held a 26-24 lead at the break before Hallie Raabe tied the game with a layup right out of the break. Sims and
Ashten Boggs gave the Scots the lead back with a back-to-back layups to make it 30-26. The Rock answered with an 8-4 spurt tying the score again at 34-34 with 4:55 on the clock in the third. The Scots pushed the lead back to 41-35 with a 7-1 run capped by a
Lauren Mullen free throw at the 1:40 mark.
Slippery Rock had the better of play early taking a 12-6 lead on a Endya Robinson jumper at the 2:37 mark of the first. Fisher cut the lead to 12-8 with a layup, but Deryn Moye answered with a bucket of her own to push the lead back to 14-8. Gentile cut the deficit to 14-10 with a layup to close out the scoring in the first.
The Scots used a 6-2 spurt to start the second to level the score at 16-16 with 6:43 on the clock. Slippery Rock scored the next four points to go up 20-16, before Sims hit a triple trimming the lead to 20-19 at the 5:16 mark. Robinson pushed the lead to 22-19 with a bucket, but the Scot answered with seven straight points to take a 26-22 lead. Regan Atkins scored with 44 seconds left to cut the Scots halftime lead to 26-24.
Gentile notched a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds while also recording four assists and two blocks. Sims added 16 points and four rebounds. Fisher tallied 10 boards to go with eight points.
Atkins paced the Rock with 17 points and five rebounds. Moye added 13 points and four boards.
The Scots close out the regular season on Saturday when they host California (PA) at 1 p.m. inside McComb Fieldhouse.
