Frostburg, Md. – The Edinboro volleyball team went 1-1 on the opening day of the Bobcat Invitational Friday afternoon.
The Scots claimed a 3-1 victory over Goldey-Beacom in the tournament opener before dropping a 3-0 decision to the University of Indianapolis in the second contest.
In the opener, The Scots trailed 16-15 in the first set when
Rita Campos notched a kill sparking four straight points to take a 19-16 lead. The teams traded points to push the score to 21-18, but the Lightning pulled even at 21-21 and the teams see-sawed to a score of 25-25.
Erika Lindqvist and
Makayla Neelands recorded back-to-back kills to close out the set for the Scots 27-25.
Goldey-Beacom answered back scoring a 26-24 win in the second to level the score. With the scored tied 14-14 in the third, The Scots went on a 6-3 run to grab a 20-17 lead. Edinboro closed out the set 25-20 to go up 2-1. The Scots jumped out 5-0 in the fourth and never looked back finishing the match with a 25-15 set victory.
Neelands led the offense with 18 kills. Lindqvist added 14 kills and five blocks.
Abigale Soboleski notched 24 assists and three service aces.
Laney Burns chipped in 17 helpers.
Carly Pry led the defensive effort with 23 digs.
Kasey Smith added four blocks.
Against the Greyhounds, the Scots dropped the first two sets in extra points, 27-25 and 26-14 respectively. Indianapolis claimed the third set 25-17.
Neelands turned in 11 kills while
Jessica Hardin also reached double figures with 10 kills. Lindqvist put on a blocking display with eight stuffs to go with seven kills. Soboleski notched 17 helpers while Burns notched 12.
Pry tallied a team-high 14 digs.
Emma Hiott tallied five blocks and Smith added four blocks.
The Scots are back in action on Saturday at the Bobcat Invitational taking on Kutztown at 2 p.m.
