Volleyball Drops Five-Setter to Clarion

Edinboro, Pa. ­– The Edinboro women's volleyball dropped a 3-2 decision to visiting Clarion in the Scots PSAC West opener Friday night inside McComb Fieldhouse.
 
With the scored tied at 17 in the first, the Scots went on a 5-1 run aided by four Golden Eagle errors and a Jessica Hardin kill to go up 22-18. Clarion trimmed the lead 23-20, but Edinboro took the opening set 25-20.
 
In the second, Edinboro held an 11-8 lead after an Erika Lindqvist kill. Clarion answered back with four straight kills to grab a 12-11 lead. The teams traded points to a 14-14 tie before the Golden Eagles ran off three straight points to pull ahead 17-14. The Scots would get within one, 18-17, but Clarion held off the Edinboro charge to take the second 25-23.
 
After Clarion won the third 25-17, the Scots jumped out to an 11-7 lead in the fourth. Clarion tied the match with four straight points, but a pair of kills each from Lindqvist and Jessica Hardin put the Scots back up 15-11 as Edinboro took the fourth 25-19.
 
Edinboro held a 4-3 advantage in the fifth, but 7-2 run by the Golden Eagles put them up 10-6 and they would hold on for the 15-9 victory.
 
Makayla Neelands led the Scots with 16 kills to go with 18 digs and three service aces. Lindqvist notched 12 kills, seven blocks including three solo stuffs. Hardin finished the night with 14 kills. Abigale Soboleski led the team with 39 assists to go with three service aces and 17 digs. Carly Pry recorded a team-high 25 digs.
 
Cassidy Snider led the Clarion offense with 30 kills. Kylie Barto triggered the offense with 32 helpers and Haley Fledderjohann notched a team-leading 24 digs.
 
The Scots are back in action on Saturday when they travel to California (PA).  Game time is set for 5 p.m.
