Volleyball Scores PSAC West Win Over California (PA)

California, Pa. – The Edinboro volleyball team notched a 3-1 victory on the road at California (PA) Saturday afternoon in PSAC West action.
 
In the first set, Cal jumped out to a 15-8 lead after a Natalie Beer kill. The Scots scored four straight points keyed by a pair of kills from Makayla Neelands to trim the lead to 15-12. The Vulcans used a 5-3 spurt to take a 20-15 lead and held on for a 25-20 set win.
 
The Scots trailed 5-2 early in the second but scored four in a row with kills from Kasey Smith and Abigale Soboleski to grab a 7-5 lead. Cal answered back with an 11-7 run to go back ahead 16-14. The set swung back toward the Scots with a 6-2 run that put Edinboro up 20-18. A service error trimmed the lead to 20-19, but Edinboro closed out the set with five straight points to level the match one set each.
 
Edinboro got out to a 12-8 lead in the third before the Vulcans went on an 11-6 to take a 19-18 lead. Neelands stopped the run with four consecutive kills and a Cal error put the Scots ahead 23-19. Edinboro held on to take the second 25-22.
 
Cal held a 7-4 in the fourth. Edinboro answered back with seven straight points capped by a Smith kill to put the Scots ahead 11-7. The Vulcans trimmed the lead to 22-20, but a 3-1 run by the Scots closed out the match 25-21. Erika Lindqvist added 13 kills and three blocks.
 
Soboleksi triggered the offense with 47 assists to go with 22 digs. Carly Pry led the Scots with 23 digs and Emma Hiott added four blocks.
 
The Scots return to action on Friday with a trip to UPJ. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
