Greensburg, Pa. – The Edinboro women's basketball team dropped a hard-fought PSAC West road contest to No. 5 Seton Hill Wednesday night inside the McKenna Center.
Ashten Boggs put the Scots ahead 63-58 with a layup with 5:23 to play. The Griffins answered with six straight points to regain the lead 64-63 after a Hailee Ford layup with 3:48 on the clock.
Ava Haddad put Edinboro back on top 65-64 with a bucket at the 2:49 mark. Seton Hill outscored the Scots 9-2 down the stretch to pull out the 73-67 victory.
Edinboro came out of the gate fast jumping to a 10-3 lead keyed by 3-pointers from
Hayley Sims and
Morgan Gentile. The Griffins responded with a 10-2 spurt of their own taking a one-point lead after a Corinne Eisner layup with 3:14 left in the first quarter.
The Scots grabbed a 16-15 lead on a Haddad layup with 1:56 remaining in the opening quarter. Back-to-back buckets by Ford gave Seton Hill a 19-16 advantage going to the second.
Gentile hit a triple to start the second tying the game sparking an 8-0 run to start the quarter putting Edinboro up 24-19. Seton Hill went on a 15-4 run taking a 34-28 lead with 2:45 left in the first half. The Scots closed the gap before the break cutting the halftime deficit to four, 37-33, after a
Gabby McDuffie layup with 29 seconds on the clock.
Eisner pushed the Griffin lead to 39-33 with a layup to start the third, but the Scots answered back with an 8-2 run capped by a Gentile layup to knot the game 41-41 at the 6:02 mark of the third. Seton Hill pushed the advantage to six, 53-47, after a Ford and-one at the 1:10 mark of the quarter. A pair of McDuffie free throws and a Sims trey cut the lead to 53-52 with 49 seconds to play in the third. Eisner split two free throws to make it 54-52 Griffins heading to the final frame.
Sims led the Edinboro offense with 15 points while also grabbing six rebounds. Haddad was highly efficient scoring 14 points on 7-of-10 shooting while pulling down six boards and blocking three shots. McDuffie added 13 points, seven rebounds, three steals and two assists. Gentile finished with 12 points and six boards.
Ford led the Griffins with 19 points and six rebounds. Helene Cowan added 13 points while Eisner finished with 11.
The Scots are back in action on Saturday when they host California (Pa.) at 1 p.m. inside McComb Fieldhouse.
