Slippery Rock, Pa. – Behind 23 points from
Ashten Boggs, the Edinboro women's basketball team scored a 74-57 victory over Slippery Rock Wednesday night in PSAC West action.
The Scots got out to a 6-0 lead on a pair of Boggs layups and a bucket from
Ava Haddad at the 8:29 mark. Alyssa Gillin stopped the run for the Rock with a 3-pointer on the next possession. Edinboro responded with a 10-4 spurt capped by a
Morgan Gentile layup wot extend the lead to 16-7 with 5:37 left in the first quarter.
Slippery Rock trimmed the lead to 16-10 on a Regan Atkins triple, but a 6-2 spurt from the Scots pushed the lead to 22-12. Gillin hit a pair of free throws for the Rock to make it 22-14 at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Slippery Rock closed the gap to 25-19 at the 8:51 mark. Edinboro answered with nine straight points capped by a
Hayley Sims layup with 5:20 on the clock. Gillin connected on a three to pull the Rock within 34-22. The Scots would outscore Slippery Rock 9-2 the rest of the quarter to take a 43-24 lead into the locker room.
Slippery Rock opened the third quarter with a 6-1 spurt to close the gap to 44-30 at the 6:15 mark. The Scots pushed the lead out to 52-32 going on an 8-2 run with all eight points coming at the free throw line. The Rock closed the quarter on a 7-3 run to trim the deficit to 55-39 after three.
The Edinboro lead grew to 20 again, 62-42 on a Haddad and-one at the 7:20 mark of the fourth. The Scot lead never fell below 15 the rest of the way.
Boggs scored 23 on a highly efficient 8-of-11 shooting to go with seven rebounds.
Gabby McDuffie tallied a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Sophia Hook paced the Rock with 13 points while Brooklyn Jones chipped in 10.
The Scots are back in action on Friday when they host Clarion at 5 p.m. inside McComb Fieldhouse.
