Johnstown, Pa. – Five different Fighting Scots scored in double figures as the Edinboro women's basketball team scored an 87-36 victory over Pitt-Johnstown Wednesday evening.
Freshman
Rachael Manfredo led the Scots a career-high 18 points on a highly efficient 8-of-10 shooting to go with six steals and three rebounds.
Ashten Boggs tallied 16 points and seven rebounds.
Gabby McDuffie tallied 14 points and six boards.
Morgan Gentile notched a double-double with 10 points and 10 assists while also pulling in six rebounds.
Hayley Sims was the fifth Edinboro player in double figures with 10 points.
The Scots came out of the gate fast scoring the first eight points of the contest after Sims scored a layup at the 7:53 mark. The Mountain Cats cut the lead to 10-6 with a 6-2 spurt of their own. McDuffie scored four points sandwiched between buckets by Boggs and Manfredo to extend the Edinboro lead to 18-6 with 1:58 left in the first quarter. UPJ scored the final five points of the frame to trim the lead to 18-11 after one.
The defense ramped up for the Scots in the second quarter as they held the Mountain Cats to 3-of-17 shooting from the field and 0-of-6 from beyond the arc. Meanwhile the Edinboro offense also found its stride as the Scots went 10-of-17 from the field outscoring the Mountain Cats 26-6 in the quarter and taking a 44-17 lead into the half.
In the third quarter, the Edinboro lead grew to 32, 49-17, after a McDuffie triple at the 8:39 mark. The closest UPJ would get in the third was 51-25 after a pair of Gianna Gallucci free throws with 4:08 on the clock. The Scots finished the quarter on a 15-3 run to take a 65-29 lead into the final frame.
The defense took over again in the fourth holding UPJ to six points on 3-of-13 shooting as the Fighting Scots finished off the conference road win.
Edinboro held the Mountain Cats to 15-of-56 shooting on the night and 1-of-20 from 3-point range. Belle Bosch was the only UPJ player to reach double figure scoring with 10 points to go with nine rebounds.
The Scots are back in action on Saturday when they host Gannon at 1 p.m. inside McComb Fieldhouse.
