Laney Burns notched her 1,000
th career assist as the Edinboro volleyball team swept host Slippery Rock 3-0 on Friday night.
The Scots got out to an 8-6 lead early in the first set. Slippery Rock scored the next four to pull ahead 10-6. Edinboro answered with a 6-3 run to trim the lead to 13-12 after a
Reilly Parent kill. Lauren VanderHarr extended the Rock lead to 14-12. Kills from Parent and
Emma Hiott bookended a pair of Slippery Rock errors to put the Scots up 16-14. The set see-sawed back and forth with Slippery Rock pulling ahead 25-24 on a Scot attack error.
Emma Hiott extended the set to extras but Callie Chevalier gave the Rock a 26-25 advantage. Two Rock errors set the stage for
Faith Schneider to give the Scots a 28-26 set win with a kill.
The Rock raced out to a 9-3 lead in the second after a kill from Marley Annis. The Scots closed the gap with four straight points putting a pair of Slippery Rock errors between
Maggie Koster kills to make it 9-7. The Rock extended the lead to 11-7, but Edinboro had the answer with a great service run from Parent. The Scots rattled off 10 consecutive points capped by a Hiott kill to take a 17-11 lead. Edinboro held off a Slippery Rock push to claim the second 25-15.
The third set was back and forth before the Rock grabbed an 11-7 lead. The Slippery Rock advantage would extend to 14-9, but again the Scots had the answer with a 10-1 spurt with Parent on the service line again to grab a 19-15 lead. Slippery Rock rallied to tie the set 21-21 after an Edinboro error. The match went back and forth with Kaitlyn Danszcak giving Slippery Rock a 26-25 advantage with a kill. Kills by Parent and Neelands gave the Scots the lead back 27-26 and a solo block from Koster sealed the win for Edinboro.
Parent finished the match with 17 kills, four service aces, 15 digs and three blocks. Schneider tallied 11 kills. Koster led the defensive effort with eight total blocks. Burns tallied 19 assists and now has 1,003 for her career.
Grace Petro chipped in 20 helpers.
The Scots are back in action on Saturday when they take on Clarion at 1 p.m.
