Clarion, Pa. –
Reilly Parent notched a game-high 17 kills to lead the Edinboro volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over host Clarion Saturday afternoon in PSAC West action.
The Scots trailed 7-4 early in the first set. Parent and
Emma Hiott each tallied a kill, a Clarion error and a
Maggie Koster solo block put Edinboro ahead 8-7. The Golden Eagles answered back with a 4-1 run to grab an 11-9 advantage. The Fighting Scot block became a factor after a Hiott kill.
Faith Schneider and Hiott teamed up for a pair of blocks before
Makayla Neelands and Schneider picked up a block pushing the lead to 13-11.
Klaresajane Sivas added a service ace to extend the lead to 14-11. Finley Kearney tallied a kill to cut the lead to 14-12. Edinboro answered with a 7-4 spurt to extend the lead to 21-16. Clarion trimmed the lead to 22-20, but a service error, a Hiott kill and an assisted block by Schneider and Neelands gave the Scots a 25-20 first set win.
In the second set, Clarion go out to an 8-6 lead before kills by Hiott and Schneider leveled the score 8-8. Karlee Berchtold put the Golden Eagles up 9-8, but the Scots responded with eight straight points capped by a
Laney Burns service ace to go up 16-9. Clarion would get within 19-14, but Edinboro scored the next six points to grab a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Scots held a 24-19 lead in the third set, but Clarion scored seven straight points including an overturned call on the final point to give the Golden Eagles a 26-24 third set win.
With the score tied 5-5 in the fourth, Parent recorded a kill and a service ace to push the lead to 7-5. A Golden Eagle error and another Parent ace pushed the lead to 9-5. Clarion closed the gap to 10-8 with a 3-1 spurt taking advantage of a pair of Scot errors. Edinboro took control of the set with eight straight points capped by a Schneider kill to extend the lead to 18-8. The Scots closed out the set with a Koster kill to claim the set 25-15 and the match 3-1.
Parent added three service aces and 10 digs to her 17 kills. Schneider added 10 kills and five blocks. Burns triggered the offense with 21 assists and
Grace Petro chipped in 15 helpers.
The Scots return to action on Tuesday when they host Lake Erie in non-conference play. Match time is set for 6 p.m. inside McComb Fieldhouse.
