Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro volleyball team dropped a 3-2 match to visiting Lake Erie College on Tuesday night in non-conference action inside McComb Fieldhouse.
In the opening set, the Scots built a 15-8 lead after a Lake Erie attack error. The Storm answered with a 10-3 run to tie the match at 18-18. Kills from
Maggie Koster and
Josephine Bailey gave Edinboro a 20-18 advantage. Lake Erie came back with back-to-back kills of their own to tie the match at 20.
Faith Schneider recorded consecutive kills to push Edinboro back to a 22-20 lead. The Scot lead grew to 24-21 after
Josephine Bailey and
Elles van Kollenburg combined on a block. Lake Erie scored the next five points to take the opening set 26-24.
The Scots trailed 6-4 early in the second set before going on an 8-0 run led by strong service from
Grace Petro and a pair of kills from
Emma Hiott to take a 12-6 lead. The Storm cut into the lead with a 3-1 spurt, but four straight points keyed by a Molly Strayer service ace and block from Schneider and Bailey extended the Edinboro advantage to 17-9. The lead would grow to 24-13 on a
Klaresajane Sivas service ace and the Scots held off a late Lake Erie push to level the match with a 25-17 set victory.
In the third, the Scots jumped out to a 10-2 lead. A kill from
Reilly Parent pushed the Edinboro advantage to 18-8 as the Scots would bring home the third set 25-13.
Edinboro took a 3-1 lead on a Parent kill early in the fourth set, but an 8-2 spurt from Lake Erie put the Storm up 9-5 after a Gabrielle Jones kill. The Scots fought back cutting the lead to 14-12, but couldn't get all the way back dropping the set 25-16.
In the final set, the Scots trailed 6-5, but a Storm error, a Sivas service ace, and a Parent kill gave Edinboro an 8-6 lead at the switch. Parent pushed the lead to 11-8 with a kill before the Storm scored three straight to knot the score at 11. The tie held at 13-13 and Nora Larson tallied a kill and Kennedy Stewart and Jones combined for a block to claim the match for the Storm.
Parent paced the offense with 19 kills. Schneider added 15 and Hiott chipped in 11. Petro triggered the offense with 27 assists while Burns turned in 19. Bailey, Koster and Parent each notched three total blocks.
Kate Flaherty tied for the team-lead in digs with 11.
The Scots return to PSAC West play on Friday when they host Seton Hill. Match time is set for 6 p.m. inside McComb Fieldhouse.
