Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro volleyball team notched a 3-1 victory over visiting California (Pa.) Saturday afternoon in PSAC West action inside McComb Fieldhouse.
The Scots jumped all over Cal in the first set jumping out to an 11-2 lead after a
Maggie Koster kill. The Vulcans closed the gap to 16-9 with a 8-5 spurt. Kills from
Emma Hiott and
Faith Schneider and a
Laney Burns service ace pushed the advantage to 19-9. The Scots closed out the set 25-17 on a kill from Schneider.
In the second set, Cal got out to a 3-0 lead. The Scots responded with an 8-2 run capped by a
Reilly Parent kill to pull ahead 8-5. The Vulcans leveled the score 10-10 after an Edinboro error. The Scots scored three of the next four including an
Elles van Kollenburg kill to pull ahead 13-11. Olivia Weiseman recorded a kill for the Vulcans to make the score 17-14 Scots, but four straight kills from Edinboro including a pair by Koster pushed the lead to 21-14. Parent closed out the set with a kill giving the Scots a 2-0 lead with a 25-17 set win.
With the score 4-3 Cal in the third after a Parent kill, Cal went on a 4-1 spurt to take an 8-4 lead. A pair of
Makayla Neelands kills sandwiching a pair of Vulcan errors tied the score 8-8. Cal scored the next two points, but three straight from the Scots gave Edinboro an 11-10 lead. A 7-4 spurt from the Vulcans gave them an 18-14 lead. The Scots cut the Cal advantage to 21-20, but the Vulcans closed the set on a 4-2 run to take the set 25-22.
In the fourth, the Scots got out to an 11-4 lead after a Parent kill. Cal climbed back into the set cutting the lead to 14-11 on a Kasie Meek kill. Edinboro opened up the lead to 21-14 after
Maggie Koster tallied a kill. The Vulcans closed to 23-18 on a Riley Evans kill, but kills from Schneider and Parent closed out the match 25-18.
Parent had a stellar contest recording 28 kills with .479 hitting percentage. Schneider added 12 kills and 12 digs. Hiott chipped in 11 kills. Burns notched 29 assists while
Grace Petro chipped in 26 helpers.
Klaresajane Sivas recorded a team-high 13 digs.
The Scots are back in action on Friday when they host Gannon at 6 p.m. inside McComb Fieldhouse.
