Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to visiting Gannon Friday night in PSAC West action inside McComb Fieldhouse.
In the opening set, the Scots jumped out early with kills from
Makayla Neelands and
Emma Hiott and a trio of Gannon errors to grab a 6-2 lead. The Golden Knights trimmed the lead to 10-7 after an Edinboro service error, but a service ace and kill from
Reilly Parent and a kill from
Maggie Koster started a 5-0 run to put the Scots up 14-7. Gannon was able to cut the lead to 21-16 after a Nehir Yazicioglu kill, but Edinboro held off the late push to take the first 25-19 on a Neelands kill.
Gannon opened the second with a 6-3 run capped by a Lauren Atwell kill. Parent recorded a kill to trim the lead to 7-5 before the Golden Knights scored three straight to extend the lead to 10-5. Gannon pushed the lead to 19-12 after a Yazicioglu kill. Edinboro trimmed the lead to 21-17 with a 4-1 spurt capped by a Neelands kill. Gannon closed out the set with a 4-1 run to claim the 25-18 victory.
In the third, Edinboro took a 4-1 lead early after kills from Hiott and Parent. The Golden Knights went on a 6-2 run of their own to grab a 7-6 lead. The Scots grabbed an 11-9 advantage after a kill from Parent and a Gannon error. The Golden Knights went on an 8-2 run to take a 17-13 lead. Edinboro battled back cutting the lead to 22-21 after a
Klaresajane Sivas service ace, but Gannon closed the match with a 3-1 spurt to claim a 25-22 set win.
The Scots got out to a 5-2 lead in the fourth, but the Golden Knights scored six straight points to grab an 8-5 lead. Edinboro closed the gap to 10-8 on a
Faith Schneider kill. Gannon responded with a 7-3 spurt to open up a 17-11 lead. Two Gannon errors cut the advantage to 17-13, but the Golden Knights finished the match with an 8-1 run to win the set 25-14.
Parent tallied 17 kills, eight digs and two service aces. Neelands tallied 13 kills and 10 digs while Hiott notched 12 kills and a pair of blocks. Schneider led the team with 11 digs.
The Scots are back in action next Friday when they travel to IUP for a 6 p.m. match.
