Indiana, Pa. -- The Edinboro volleyball team fell 3-0 to host IUP on Friday night in PSAC West action inside the Kovalchick Convention & Athletic Complex.
In the opening set the Scots took a 4-2 lead on a
Faith Schneider kill after trailing 2-0 early. IUP answered with a 9-3 run to grab an 11-7 advantage.
Maggie Koster notched a kill to pull Edinboro within 11-8 before the Crimson Hawks went on an 8-1 spurt to extend the advantage to 17-9. A block from Koster and
Makayla Neelands closed the gap to 20-16, but that was as close as the Scots would get with IUP taking the first 25-19.Â
Edinboro got out to an early lead again in the second with
Emma Hiott recording a kill to make it 5-2. IUP took the lead with an8-3 spurt capped by a Fighting Scot error to make it 10-8 Crimson Hawks. The Scots retook the lead with a 7-4 run to pull ahead 15-14. The lead swung back and forth with Edinboro holding a 22-21 edge after a
Christina Lockett block. The Crimson Hawks closed the set with a 4-1 run to take the second 25-23.
It was the Crimson Hawks that got out fast in the third opening with five straight points. The next seven points went to the Scots capped by a Hiott kill. Edinboro would hold a 13-12 lead, but IUP finished the match on a 13-3 run to take the match.
Neelands and
Reilly Parent each tallied nine kills and nine digs both team-highs.
Grace Petro dished out 15 assists.Â
The Scots return to action on Saturday when they travel to play Pitt-Johnstown at 1 p.m.
